Rochelle Schultz Discusses Aretha Franklin’s Handwritten Will and Celebrity Estate Controversies with Fox News
Rochelle Schultz was recently featured in Fox News’ article “Aretha Franklin joins Prince, Michael Jackson and Robin Williams as stars’ families battle it out over wills,” which examines the legendary soul singer’s handwritten will and the battle over estate distribution for her children. With Frankin’s formal, legal will last updated in 2010, there was controversy over whether a 2014 handwritten document discovered in her home after she passed was valid. Her sons recently went to court over which of these wills would be adhered to as there were major differences between the two.
Upon the court granting validity to the 2014 handwritten will, Rochelle shed light on the next steps of the estate distribution, sharing that “the will be probated, which is a court-supervised process of distributing assets according to the terms of the will. The court will appoint an executor or personal representative of Ms. Franklin’s estate, who will be in charge of managing and distributing the estate according to the terms of the valid will. Ms. Franklin’s children still may disagree about who should be appointed as executor or personal representative and the terms of the will.”
