Elizabeth Acevedo Helps Demystify Estate Planning on “Money Talk with Tiff” Podcast
In a recent episode of the “Money Talk with Tiff” podcast, Elizabeth Acevedo joined host Tiffany Grant to discuss estate planning in an accessible way, including common mistakes to avoid and crucial steps in the estate planning journey.
As Beth explains, one of the most common misconceptions in estate planning is believing that the process is only for the wealthy, or individuals with complicated assets.
“The reality is most of us need to estate plan because most of us don’t want the government to say how our properties are distributed when we pass away,” Beth tells Tiff, noting that if you don’t set down on paper your wishes for after you pass away, attorneys will look to local law. “Sometimes what the law says aligns with what my clients would want anyway, but often it doesn’t,” she adds.
Beth also provides important tips for those meeting with an estate planning attorney for the first time.
“The most important thing for that meeting is having a complete list of your assets and any major liabilities,” she advises, adding that this includes business information and any brokerage accounts along with the general value of those accounts.
