Hal Weinstock Receives Timothy Whitehouse Award from the Beverly Hills Bar Association
The Beverly Hills Bar Association: Trusts and Estate Section awarded the prestigious 2013 Timothy Whitehouse Award to Harold Weinstock. Harold Weinstock, along with two colleagues, founded Weinstock Manion over 50 years ago and helped transform estate planning from a subset of family law into its own specialized field. He retired in 2000.
Weinstock taught his well-known Estate Planning course at UCLA Extension for almost 25 years. He wrote Planning an Estate: A Guidebook of Principles and Techniques, now in its 4th edition, a textbook that has been used by many prestigious law schools, as well as professional programs for accountants and certified financial planners. Weinstock also wrote numerous articles which appeared in all of the major tax and estate planning publications.
“Hal lectured at all of the major conferences around the country, but he was also always there for his colleagues who asked him to speak at their luncheons, dinner meetings or local seminars. Hal unselfishly gave of his time and his knowledge. Hal is brilliant; he is a scholar. He is a man of the highest integrity; he is a man of honor. He was a fair partner and a caring employer. He is witty and fun; his heart was always big and extended to all of his colleagues and his clients. He is deserving of our admiration and of the honor that comes with the Timothy Whitehouse Award,” commented Sussan Shore, Managing Director of Weinstock Manion.
Harold Weinstock was a Certified Specialist in both Taxation Law and Probate, Estate Planning and Trust Law. He was a member of the Advisory Boards of the NYU Institute on Federal Taxation and the UCLA School of Law Estate Planning Institute. He served as Secretary of the LACBA Taxation Section, and Chairman of the Beverly Hills Bar Association Trusts and Estates Section. He was President of both the Beverly Hills Estate Planning Council and the Estate Counselor Forum of Los Angeles. Weinstock was also a Fellow of ACTEC – the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. In 1996, he was awarded the Los Angeles County Bar Association Trusts and Estates Section’s highest honor, the Arthur K. Marshall Award.

The purpose of the Timothy Whitehouse Award is to honor an individual or organization who has promoted justice, increased judicial services to the public at large, and has furthered the goals of a fair and efficient administration of judicial services within the probate courts of Los Angeles County.
